Upper Elementary Link Party

HAPPY FRIDAY my blog friends!  While blog stalking today I came across a new blog that was having a upper elementary link party.  I am so excited about this link party because I get to discover new and inspiring blogs.  It encourages 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teachers to link up with one another.  Link up with Lorraine at Fabulous 4th Grade Froggies! Click the button below to join the party!  I hope you find creative ideas and meet new bloggers.  Enjoy your blog stalking!

St. Patricks Day Activities

My kiddies have been doing so much geometry this past week! I decided to give them a break and do some fun St. Patty's activities.  They get a break and I get to decorate my room with some rainbows and pots of gold.  We read the story Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato by Tomie dePaola.  The children loved this story.  Specifically when Jamie found the Leprechaun.  I had my class make connections to the text by asking them, "What would you do if you found a Leprechaun with a pot of gold?"  The end product came out really cute.

The children wrote a paragraph answering the writing prompt
from a reproducible I found that I used last year.

I also stumbled across this shamrock activity by Mrs. Zrihen at A Teacher's Treasure while blog stalking.  She created a shamrock craftivity using a KWL chart.  My kiddies loved it!  Before reading a story about St. Patricks Day we filled in what we know and what we want to know about St. Patrick's Day.  I was surprised to see how much my children knew and how much I didn't know!  I learn too when I teach :) .  Anyway, we then completed the L-learn part of the chart and cut out the craftivity.  She originally used four parts, KWHL, but I decided to modify it to fit the needs of my class.  Our shamrocks came out amazing. SO MUCH FUN!

Making Congruent Shapes

My kiddies have been doing so well with our Geometry Unit!  I used geo-boards this last week to implement a hands on approach to teach Congruence with plane figures.  They loved it!  They did not want to put these boards down.  We also made similar shapes as well.  I purchased these from Lakeshore Learning website.  Check out the pictures.   Click Here To Purchase  geoboards.
